Finn Russell and Allan Dell will both be on the bench for the British & Irish Lions on Tuesday following their call-ups.

The stand-off and loosehead prop, from Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby respectively, flew to Auckland after helping Scotland defeat Australia on Saturday.

And Lions Head Coach Warren Gatland has named them amongst the replacements to take on the Chiefs at the FMG Stadium Waikato.

Tommy Seymour is also a replacement with Greig Laidlaw starting.

“Nobody really wants to go on tour just to make up the numbers,” Russell, 24, said.

“Everyone is going there pushing for positions. The three stand-offs are there just now, so it’ll be tough.”

South Africa-born Dell, 25, said: “I’m so happy, I’m just lost for words, I am sure the call-up will sink in soon.”

Ireland’s Rory Best will captain a new starting line-up as the Lions look to further build momentum towards the First Test following victory over the Maori All Blacks in Rotorua.

Gatland said: “We are five games into the tour and there is still a lot to play for.  Those involved on Tuesday will be playing not only for themselves in terms of further selection but also for the whole squad.

“We are here to win a Test series and we have brought cover for the replacements bench so we can limit the number of players who need to double up, which is tough to do at this level of rugby.
“We know it is going to be another big challenge against the Chiefs who have won the Super Rugby title twice in the last five years.”
