Scotland under-20 loosehead prop George Thornton has been rewarded for his good form by joining the Wasps Senior Academy ahead of the new season.
The 20-year-old impressed for Scotland during the World Rugby Championship in Georgia this summer, starting all five of the games.
He also played well in the 6 Nations and is a great prospect for the future.
Thornton was brought up in Leicestershire and is a former Market Harborough and Bishop Burton College player. He is eligible for Scotland as his mother’s family are from North Berwick.
He will join under-20s team mate Connor Eastgate at the Coventry-based club.
As they announced numerous deals, Wasps Academy Manager Jonathan Pendlebury said: “It’s great to be able to offer extended opportunities for over 18 players. James Seabrook and Joe Tunney have come through the Academy system and we are looking to extend their opportunity by continuing in the Senior Academy and balancing that with ‘A’ League exposure and university rugby.
“Similarly, for Gabriel Oghre and George, who are coming from different backgrounds, it is great to be able to offer them opportunities with Senior Academy deals. Gaby is coming from another academy and George has come through a completely different route having played club rugby, to university level BUCS rugby and the Junior World Championship at international level. We look forward to welcoming them to Wasps for the season ahead.”
