Rhona Lloyd has had quite some season – and now she is aiming to put the icing on the cake with some good sevens showings for Scotland.

The 20-year-old winger played her part earlier in the year as the XV-a-side national side defeated Wales and Italy in the 6 Nations.

And she was also a big part of the Edinburgh University side that won trophies, including one at Twickenham.

And now she is one of three new caps who have been named by Head Coach Scott Wight in the Scotland Women Sevens squad for the first leg of the Rugby Europe Women’s Sevens Trophy this weekend.

Hillhead/Jordanhill’s Hannah Smith and Edinburgh University’s Elizabeth Musgrove the other new faces in the 12-strong squad that has traveled to Ostrava, Czech Republic.

They will face Moldova, Israel and Germany in Pool C on day one on Saturday and Lloyd said:  “I am so excited to be getting a chance with the Scotland Sevens team.

“I have been close to gaining a cap over the last couple of years, but injury has got in the way, so it was great this year to come out of the XV-a-side season fully fit and raring to go.

“With Scott coming in we all wanted to impress the new coach and as a result the camps and training sessions in recent weeks have been intense and of a high standard.

“For us to have a coach who has just played for Scotland on the World Series circuit and helped the team to the final in Paris and a win at Twickenham as recently as last month really is brilliant.

“The game of sevens has changed a lot in recent years and Scott is brilliantly placed to explain to us how to play the modern game.

“We have been working hard on all the different aspects of the game and there has been a lot to take on board, especially in the contact area and defence, but we have all been loving it and as a unit we feel like we are ready for this first event in the Czech Republic.

“Most of us were involved in the 6 Nations, so we have a bit of confidence and we all love representing Scotland so these really are exciting times in both forms of the game.”

Results will be posted on the Rugby Europe website and games will be live streamed on Rugby Europe TV.
