Watsonians got their Kings of the Sevens campaign for 2017/18 off to a great start at the weekend with a win at the Peebles Sevens.

The Myreside men won the overall circuit last term and at The Gytes in front of a good crowd they were on good form once again.

In the pool stages the Edinburgh side played against Kelso and Biggar and won 38-12 and 26-0 respectively.

Gala, Melrose and Edinburgh Acciees also progressed through their pools to the last four.

Knock-out stages

In the first semi-final, Gala defeated Accies 26-5 and in the second last four tie Watsonians edged out Melrose 26-21.

In the final, Gala got off to a flying start and took the lead before Watsonians fought back to win 31-14 with Keith Young and Euan McKirdy among the try scorers.

The Kings of the Sevens will resume in April with nine more events.
