Bath Rugby have confirmed that Finn Russell has signed a new contract extension that will keep the Scotland and British & Irish Lions star at the club until June 2028.
The mercurial fly-half, widely regarded as one of the most creative playmakers in world rugby, enjoyed a standout 2024/25 season — finishing as the leading points scorer in the Gallagher Premiership with 183 points, and helping Bath secure a historic domestic and European treble.
Russell’s Impact Since Joining Bath
Since arriving at The Rec in 2023, Russell has made 45 appearances for the club across all competitions, tallying 420 points, including four tries. Known for his attacking flair, pinpoint kicking and game management, Russell has quickly become a fan favourite in Bath colours.
“I have loved my time here at Bath. It’s a great team and a great club. We’ve come a long way over the last couple of years, and I am really looking forward to staying here and seeing what the club can achieve,” said Russell.
“The fans have been outstanding since I got here. We’ve had some big results at home and that’s just our way of giving back to the fans and trying to represent them in the right way.”
A World-Class Talent
Russell, 32, has long been a central figure in Scottish rugby. He has over 75 caps for Scotland, representing his country at multiple Six Nations Championships and Rugby World Cups. He has also featured for the British & Irish Lions, earning selection for the 2021 tour to South Africa, where he played a key role in the third Test.
His blend of creativity and unpredictability has made him one of the most watchable players in the sport — and a pivotal figure in Bath’s resurgence under Head of Rugby Johann van Graan.
Club Reaction: A Leader On and Off the Pitch
Reacting to the news, Van Graan said:
“It’s amazing news. Finn is one of the world’s best 10s, a player who performs in the big moments and more importantly he’s an incredible team man and a family man.
He is one of the lads, his training is exceptional, and he’s added so much to our group. It’s great that he’ll be staying on at Bath Rugby and continuing his journey with the Blue, Black and White.”
Russell also spoke about the future of the team:
“The way the club is developing and with the young players coming through, the belief and confidence that we’ve got week-to-week is just growing. There are some brilliant new signings coming in as well who will be great additions to the club, and I can’t wait to get started next season.”
Looking Ahead
With this long-term extension in place, Bath fans can look forward to seeing one of rugby’s top talents guiding their side for at least three more seasons. As Bath continue to build under Van Graan, Russell’s experience and leadership will be vital in maintaining their challenge for silverware both domestically and in Europe.
