George Horne has committed his future to Glasgow Warriors, signing a new contract that will keep him at Scotstoun for the foreseeable future. The deal comes on the heels of a historic weekend for the 29-year-old scrum-half, who became the club’s all-time leading try-scorer.
A key figure in the Warriors’ 2023/24 BKT United Rugby Championship-winning squad, Horne surpassed DTH van der Merwe’s record on Saturday night, scoring his 55th try for the club in the victory over Emirates Lions.
Horne, who made his professional debut in November 2016, has established himself as one of the BKT URC’s top scrum-halves, renowned for his support play and attacking instincts. His contributions to Glasgow rugby have been significant, including reaching the 100-cap milestone in the opening game of the 2023/24 season, where he marked the occasion with a try against Leinster.
In January 2025, he also claimed the title of Glasgow’s all-time leading try-scorer in European competition, overtaking previous record-holders with a try against Racing 92 following a hat-trick against Sale Sharks. After drawing level with van der Merwe by scoring against Munster last weekend—while the former Glasgow winger watched on—Horne sealed his place in history with his latest score at Scotstoun.
On the international stage, Horne has earned 36 caps for Scotland since his debut in 2018, amassing 44 points. His most recent appearance came in the Guinness Six Nations victory over Wales at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.
Reflecting on his contract extension, Horne expressed his pride in representing Glasgow Warriors:
“I’m massively proud to represent this club,” Horne told glasgowwarriors.org. “I love coming in to training every day – we’ve got a great group of boys here, and everyone around the club makes it a great place to be. I can’t wait to be here for another couple of years.
“I’m incredibly proud to have reached the all-time try record, but we don’t play rugby for individual accolades – it’s all about the team, and getting that taste of success in Pretoria last year has given me and the rest of the guys a real hunger to go out and do it again.
“We’re all desperate to get that winning feeling back at Scotstoun again – we know how much hard work it took last season, but we have the players, management and backroom staff to achieve that.
“I want to thank the Warrior Nation too – rugby without the fans is nothing, and the supporters turn up in all weathers at Scotstoun and make themselves seen and heard. We’re so proud to represent them and the city of Glasgow, and we’re so thankful to have the chance to play for them. Thank you to everyone for their support and the messages over the last couple of days, I’m really thankful.”
Glasgow Warriors Head Coach Franco Smith also praised Horne’s impact on the team, saying:
“George is a great example of what it means to be a Glasgow Warrior, and he helps to drive our standards on and off the field.
“His work ethic and determination to be the best version of himself is clear for all to see, with his passion to represent this club evident each time he pulls on the jersey.
“We’re proud of what he’s achieved in a Glasgow Warriors shirt so far, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with him.”
With his future secured, Horne will be looking to build on his remarkable achievements as Glasgow Warriors push for further success in the seasons ahead.
