GHA Rugby Club is enjoying one of its most exciting periods in recent years, with growth, success, and community spirit running through every part of the club. The most striking development has been the explosion of its junior and youth section, which now boasts around 440 youngsters regularly taking part in training and matches. Backed by an incredible 70 volunteer coaches, the section has become one of the most vibrant in Scottish rugby.
“There are no problems at all – it’s been amazing to see so many young players getting involved and enjoying their rugby,” said Laura Heaney. The atmosphere on training nights is buzzing, with pitches full, parents lining the sidelines, and the club feeling more alive than ever.
That community-driven energy extends beyond rugby itself. A brand new Burger Hut, run by the club famous Andy, has become a favourite among supporters on matchdays – a small but telling sign of the club’s togetherness and pride.
On the pitch, GHA’s men’s teams are in strong form. The 1st XV have been playing with real confidence, while the club’s Gazelles side keeps the spirit of rugby alive for the older generation of players who still love pulling on the jersey. There’s also plenty to look forward to off the field, with a Spanish tour planned for the men – a well-deserved reward for their hard work and commitment throughout the season.
The club’s connections extend far beyond Giffnock, too. One of GHA’s key sponsors, Arnold Clark, continues to back the club, and supporters were delighted to spot young Harry featured on an Arnold Clark advert proudly displayed beside Murrayfield Stadium – a special moment for the GHA community.
While there’s currently no women’s team, it’s something the club is actively exploring. GHA maintains close ties with Cartha Queens Park RFC, recognised as one of the best destinations for women’s rugby in the west of Scotland, and hopes to build its own pathway in the near future.
The club’s next major highlight comes on 15th November, when GHA will host Edinburgh Accies in what promises to be a fiery East versus West derby. The fixture is always a standout on the Scottish club rugby calendar – a clash full of passion, rivalry, and pride.
With a booming youth section, dedicated volunteers, strong community links, and ambitious plans for the future, GHA Rugby Club is more than just thriving – it’s flourishing. The future looks bright for this proud Glasgow side, on and off the field.
