Scotland Women’s rugby team have unveiled their first-ever tournament-specific kit ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2025 – a historic moment for the side as they prepare to take the global stage with a distinctly Scottish design in their corner.
Crafted in partnership with long-time technical sponsor Macron, the new strips blend tradition, sustainability, and identity in one bold statement. For the first time in their history, Scotland’s women will wear a bespoke kit created specifically for a Rugby World Cup – a milestone that hasn’t gone unnoticed by the team.
“Having a tournament-specific kit for the very first time is a huge moment,” said captain Rachel Malcolm. “It feels even more special knowing it’s for the Rugby World Cup. We are fiercely proud Scots, so we are beyond excited to step onto the world’s biggest stage wearing a kit that not only represents our country but who we are as a team.”
Design Rooted in Heritage
The new home jersey remains true to Scotland’s traditional navy but adds striking purple detailing and heather purple accents – a tribute to one of the country’s symbolic flowers. Iconic tartan bands run down the sides and onto the back hem, with “Scotland” embossed proudly in subtle graphic detail.
A tartan-backed neck label features the Scottish Rugby logo and the team’s rallying cry, As One, while the left sleeve carries the embroidered Saltire – a visible nod to national pride.
The away strip reverses the base colour to white, with the same navy and purple tones lining the sleeves and collar, offering a clean but equally symbolic design.
From head to toe, the kit is unified in theme. Navy shorts carry vertical tartan graphics, and socks are finished with fine heather purple stripes at the cuff.
Sustainable by Design
Beyond aesthetics, the kit stands as a symbol of sustainability. Made from Eco Fabric – a 100% polyester material derived from recycled plastic – each shirt uses the equivalent of 13 recycled bottles. Macron’s Eco Bodytex, Armevo, and Strong Mesh fabrics ensure the strips are lightweight yet durable, combining high performance with low environmental impact.
Ross Cook, Macron’s Senior Technical Sponsorship Manager, called the launch “a landmark moment for Scottish Rugby and the women’s game.”
“These kits celebrate heritage, performance, and progress,” he said. “They are something special and unique, not just for how they look, but for what they represent… each jersey is a proud step forward for both the planet and the sport as we must protect the field we play on.”
Ready for Fans
The kits are now available to purchase in both women’s and men’s fits through Scottish Rugby outlets online and in-store at Scottish Gas Murrayfield and Glasgow’s Queen Street Macron store. Wider retail availability begins 11 July.
David Salisbury, Head of Retail Licensing for Scottish Rugby, summed up the excitement around the launch: “This bespoke kit is crafted from eco-friendly materials, showcasing vibrant Scottish tartan and heather purple accents, perfectly blending sustainability with iconic Scottish heritage.”
With the Rugby World Cup kicking off on 22 August 2025, the countdown is well and truly on. As Scotland Women gear up for the biggest tournament of their careers, fans now have the chance to wear the thistle with pride and join the journey.
