Jare Oguntibeju, a 22-year-old second-row forward, has officially joined the Glasgow Warriors on his first professional contract. The promising talent, who has emerged as a breakout performer during the 2024/25 season, signed a two-year deal with the Scotstoun-based club, securing his place with the team until the summer of 2027. The announcement was made on February 26, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the young player’s career.
Oguntibeju joined Glasgow Warriors’ senior academy in the summer of 2024, following an impressive stint with Scotland U20. He made his professional debut for the club in November 2024, playing 75 minutes in a narrow 17-15 victory over Scarlets at Scotstoun. Just weeks later, he scored his first try for the Warriors during a 30-29 defeat to Toulon in the Investec Champions Cup, showcasing his dynamic ball-carrying ability.
Born in South Africa to Nigerian parents, the 6ft 8in lock spent much of his childhood in Edinburgh, qualifying him to represent Scotland. After returning to South Africa, he began playing rugby at age 17, quickly catching attention with his physicality and potential. His rapid development continued despite a serious knee injury in 2022, which sidelined him for two years during his time with Scotland U20.
Glasgow Warriors head coach Franco Smith praised Oguntibeju’s dedication and potential, noting his eagerness to improve and his strong performances in his initial outings. The contract reflects the club’s confidence in his ability to grow into a key player, adding depth to their second-row options. With only a handful of professional games under his belt, Oguntibeju’s journey with the reigning United Rugby Championship champions is just beginning.
